Newcastle United host West Ham United on Saturday as the Premier League resumes action following the international break.

Kick-off is set for 12:30pm UK time at St. James' Park.

Recent Form

Newcastle United

Newcastle look to return to winning ways after suffering a 3-2 away defeat to Chelsea in their last league outing. They also suffered a 2-0 away loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup before the international break.

Overall, Newcastle have impressed on home turf this season; their contrast in points earned both home and away mean only Fulham have a higher home advantage percentage, with Newcastle 24% more likely to win in front of their own fans.

Their recent home form has left a lot to be desired though, with Eddie Howe's side recording just one win in their last five. That victory did come in their last league match at home though, when they secured a 3-0 win over Wolves.

Newcastle sit tenth in the expected goal (xG) tally rankings, averaging 1.5 so far, but find themselves fourth in the goals scored standings, having averaged an impressive 2.11 goals per game this term.

They've also fared better in defensive columns at home, averaging just 1.14 goals conceded so far. This compares with a worrying 2.29 on the road. Newcastle have also registered clean sheets in 50% of home matches, and have scored in all 14 of their games at St James' park so far.

West Ham United

After back-to-back away losses to Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, West Ham recorded a 3-1 win over Everton in their last away outing. They've also recorded two consecutive home draws against Burnley and Aston Villa since.

Despite this, West Ham still sit 15th in the xG table when away from home, with an average of just 1.13. Like Newcastle however, the Hammers have exceeded their xG with an average of 1.59 goals per game so far.

In defensive columns, David Moyes' side have conceded a worrying two goals per game in away matches. This falls in line with their expected goals against (xGA) average of 1.97 on the road, with only Luton Town averaging worse.

Only 7% of West Ham's away games have ended in a clean sheet, and they've conceded three of more in an alarming 36% of games on the road this season.

Prediction

Both sides' records this season suggest more goals can be expected in the early kick-off. Newcastle have averaged 3.57 total goals in home games so far, while West Ham have averaged 3.5 total goals on their travels. Combined with Newcastle's impressive goalscoring form on home turf and West Ham's habit of conceding heavily away, OddsNow anticipate a high-scoring encounter this weekend.

Newcastle's home matches have also averaged ten corners exactly so far, while West Ham's games on the roads have seen an average of 11.43, suggesting plenty of set-piece action lies in wait in the North-East.

OddsNow's Picks: Over 3.5+ goals scored (5/4 @ BetUK); Over 10.5+ corners (Evens @ BoyleSports)
