Leeds United welcome Blackburn Rovers to Elland Road at lunch time on Saturday, with the hosts looking to move into the automatic promotion spots as time begins to run out in the Sky Bet Championship.
The visitors currently sit three points above the relegation zone and will aim to move closer towards safety on their trip to Yorkshire. Blackburn have however failed to defeat Leeds in their last five meetings. Kick-off is set for 12.30pm.
The hosts’ incredible form landed them top of the Championship not long ago, but a recent rough patch has left them one point outside of the automatic playoff spots. Leeds have won only one of their last four matches, with their first league loss of 2024 coming two games ago in a 2-1 defeat to Coventry City. Their last match ended in a 0-0 draw against Sunderland.
Despite a dip in form, the hosts have still scored six goals in their last four matches. Daniel Farke’s side have been prolific all season in the Championship, particularly at home where their expected goal (xG) tally sits at 1.77. They have bettered that tally by netting an average of 2.1 goals per home match, scoring in 90% of their matches at Elland Road. Crysencio Summerville is the man to watch with twenty-five goal involvements this season in the Championship for Leeds.
Leeds have the best defensive record in the league, keeping a total of nineteen clean sheets from forty-two games. Their expected goals against (xGA) tally is 0.92 in home matches, which they have bettered by conceding an average of only 0.62 goals per game at Elland Road.
The visitors have only one win in their last twelve league matches and suffered a 5-0 defeat last time out against Bristol City. Despite their poor form as a team, Sammie Szmodics has been electric for Rovers this season and currently tops the goalscoring charts with twenty-three for the season.
John Eustace’s side have averaged an expected goals (xG) of 1.21 on the road this season, which they have bettered by scoring an average of 1.43 goals per game in away matches. They have an impressively high shot conversion rate of 17% in away games.
Blackburn’s defensive record is the cause of their struggles in the Championship this season, particularly on the road. Their expected goals against (xGA) tally sits at 1.7 in away matches, which they have failed to match by conceding a worrying average of 1.9 goals on the road this season. Rovers have kept clean sheets in only 24% of their away matches.
Leeds come into the tie as clear favourites and can be expected to get back to winning ways. However, due to the bookmakers favouring Leeds so strongly to take maximum points from the clash, there is little value to be found in backing them on the moneyline.
Both sides have no issues scoring goals and Blackburn have a poor defensive record on the road. With both Leeds’ home matches and Blackburn’s away matches often involving plenty of goals, OddsNow expect another high-scoring match.
