The Premier League travels to the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham this week for Night Seven of the series as Luke Humphries looks to build on his victory in Brighton last week.

Tournament Format

Eight of the best darts players face-off in a mini tournament with quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final all taking place in one night. The Premier League takes place across 16 nights in total, with this week’s being the seventh. Each match will be played over the best of eleven legs.

Players will be rewarded with ranking points each night – five to the winner, three to the runner-up, and two to the players who lose in the semi-finals. Points will be added up across the 16 weeks, with the top four players proceeding to the tournament play-offs in May.

Night Seven Matches

The night begins with a battle at the foot-end of the Premier League between Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price. Wright is yet to score a point after six consecutive losses and was narrowly beaten by eventual runner-up Michael Smith in last week's quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the ‘Iceman’ Price had started well at the beginning of the Premier League, but in recent weeks has struggled for form, losing 6-2 to Luke Humphries in last week's quarter-final.

Match two sees a repeat of last week’s final between Luke Humphries and Michael Smith. After a difficult few months following his World Championships victory, Humphries appears to be playing his best darts again. Humphries has already managed an appearance in the UK Open final followed up by a victory in Night Six last week.

Smith's form has been fluctuating, meanwhile. Since his victory in the first night, there have been a couple of semi-final appearances plus a spot as last week's runner-up. The former World Champion struggled against Peter Wright in the quarters but sailed past Luke Littler before he was eventually toppled by Humphries.

The third match sees Michael van Gerwen pitted against teenage sensation Littler. Van Gerwen sits top of the Premier League after three consecutive night wins between Night Two and Night Four but has been beaten early on in the past two weeks in the quarter-finals, with a 6-2 defeat to Rob Cross last week.

Meanwhile, his opponent has regularly appeared in the semi-finals but has not yet managed a place in a final. Littler beat Nathan Aspinall convincingly 6-3 in the quarters last week but failed to beat Smith in the semi-finals. The young Brit is yet to win a night in the Premier League but heads into Thursday on the back of success in the Belgian Open, where he defeated Cross last week.

The final match of the quarters sees a repeat match of Night Five’s final between the aforementioned Cross and Aspinall. Cross has started to find his form again, beating Van Gerwen 6-2, in the quarter-finals last week. Nathan Aspinall on the other hand has been inconsistent to say the least. The Stockport man surprisingly won Night Five in Exeter but was defeated in the quarter-finals last week to Littler.

Quarter-Final Lineup:

  • Peter Wright vs Gerwyn Price
  • Luke Humphries vs Michael Smith
  • Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Littler
  • Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall

Prediction

Despite the positive form of World Champion Humphries, Luke Littler could be the go-to pick for this week. The 17-year-old heads to Brighton in good form following his success in the Belgian Open and looks in good stead to land his first victory in the Premier League.
