It's major week once again in the world of golf and Odds Now's resident expert Ross Kilvington (@Kilvington91) in on hand to cast his eye over the 2025 USPGA Championship.
In his first preview of the week, Ross picks out some key trends and offers up three picks from the top, middle and bottom of the betting market.
The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow this week for the second major of the 2025 season.
The venue hosted the tournament back in 2017, where Justin Thomas claimed the first of his two Wanamaker trophies. Of course, Quail Hollow has also been the host of the annual Wells Fargo Championship since 2003.
This means a lot of those in the field will have had plenty of experience at the course, notably Rory McIlroy, who has won four times here since 2010.
McIlroy won the Grand Slam at the Masters last month and with the pressure off, can he add to his major collection in North Carolina?
This is just one of the many narratives this week. Scottie Scheffler will be determined to win his third major title, while Jordan Spieth could join McIlroy in the Grand Slam club with a victory at Quail Hollow.
Elsewhere, with 15 LIV Golfers taking part – representing 28% of the breakaway league – will one of them end the week victorious?
Quail Hollow is a long course which favours big hitters and those who are excellent with their approach play. This could narrow down the list of winners, no doubt about that.
In the first of two articles this week, we at Odds Now have chosen three players – from the top, middle and bottom of the betting market – who could shine at the Charlotte venue.
If it wasn’t for Xander Schaueffle’s brilliance on the 18th at Valhalla last year, DeChambeau would have won the PGA with a score of 20-under.
As such, he went out and pipped McIlroy at the U.S. Open just a few weeks later and heads into this week in excellent form.
Despite having a great chance to win the Masters, eventually finishing in a tie for sixth, there were plenty of positives for the American at Augusta. Indeed, just last week, he won the LIV Golf Korea title.
He ranks first for driving distance in the Saudi-backed series and has came close at Quail Hollow before, finishing fourth and ninth in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
Another major is surely just around the corner. Will he conquer Quail Hollow this week?
While there may have been more focus on Day’s apparel than his golf since linking up with Malbon (check out his Masters outfits from 2024 and 2025 if you don’t believe me), but 2025 has proven to be fairly solid.
The Australian has recorded three top-ten finishes – including a tie for eighth at the Masters – and he has made the cut in all nine events he has played.
Yes, Day might not be as long off the tee as he once was, ranking 130th for driving distance on the PGA Tour, but his approach play has been excellent in spells.
Day won the Wells Fargo in 2018 and finished fourth last year. Add another four top-25 finishes and it is evident that the 2015 PGA champion knows Quail Hollow extremely well.
At the 2017 event, he might have even won his second major, but a third round 77 knocked him down to a tie for ninth instead.
Odds of 66/1, especially with his Masters display surely giving him plenty of confidence, are far too good to ignore.
After everything Woodland has gone through in recent years, just being able to play golf again was an achievement in itself.
Following his brain surgery in September 2023 to remove a benign tumour, the American has not only returned to competitive golf, but has came close to winning again.
A stunning final round of 62 at the Houston Open ensured he finished runner up, which was the highest finish since he returned to golf.
While he hasn’t been as close in his previous two events (T40 and (T61), there is plenty of optimism surrounding Woodland performing well this week.
On a course that favours length off the tee, the 2019 U.S. Open champion ranks 11th on tour for driving distance (313.3 yards). Furthermore, with the majority of approach shots coming in at between 175-225 yards, Woodland ranks 45th in this metric so far during 2025.
The 40-year-old has showed unbelievable resilience to get back into a position where he can challenge in tournaments
