German Masters snooker betting tips: Belgian Bullet worth a shot

Snooker’s best head to Berlin for the German Masters and our baize betting expert Adam Drury (@Adam_Drury1) is on hand to preview the action, alongside flagging some outright fancies.

One of the most popular events on the snooker calendar rolls around again as 64 players head to the Tempodrom in Berlin to compete for the German Masters title.

The unique venue sees five matches played simultaneously in the early rounds, with four tables angled around the centrepiece, and produces a fantastic atmosphere.

Reigning champion Judd Trump will be out to defend his title and pocket the £100k prize, while the players who have qualified are guaranteed to earn £3,600.

Following the trends

Trump, naturally, leads the market but with a best price of 3/1 to lift the trophy, does not hold enough appeal.

The world champion needs to win a quarter featuring Neil Robertson and newly-crowned Masters champion Shaun Murphy just to reach the final four and eyes should be drawn to some bigger prices instead.

This event always begins just days after the Masters finishes — and there is a clear correlation between the two events.

Since the German Masters was reintroduced in 2011, none of the 14 champions had progressed beyond the quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace, with seven knocked out at the last-16 stage and four not featuring there at all.

The emotional baggage that comes with a run in north London could have some bearing on performance in a different big event just a few days later, so we'll veer away from those who reached the latter stages last week.

That rules Murphy, Kyren Wilson and Mark Allen out of our thinking — and is another reason to resist backing the imperious Trump.

Bullet set to fire

We would have avoided Masters quarter-finalists where possible, but Luca Brecel's run to the final eight last week should count in his favour rather than against him.

The Belgian has suffered terribly since brilliantly winning the World Championship in 2023, provisionally ranked down at No.54 in the world once his Crucible ranking points drop off at the end of this season.

The Bullet has shown signs of life in recent weeks, however, knocking Ding Junhui out of the Scottish Open before beating Xhang Anda, Wilson and Mark Williams on his way to the final of the Riyadh Snooker Championship.

He also impressed in overcoming Chris Wakelin in the first round at Ally Pally and there was no shame in losing to eventual finalist Wilson at the next stage.

A player whose talent is not in question, mood and energy is crucial to Brecel and both of those seem to be on the up.

Anda is the only player inside the top 25 in his mini-section of the draw, with Wilson – who we are banking on suffering a hangover after losing the Masters final – his biggest obstacle on the way to the semis.

We can take Brecel outright at 22/1 with Star Sports and to win his quarter at 11/2 across the board.

Page could be a turn-up

World No.35 Jackson Page should be fancied to go on a strong run at some stage in the coming months.

Page's cool temperament suits the set-piece events. He beat Dave Gilbert and Ali Carter on his way to the quarter-final of the International Championship in November, before putting it up to Mark Allen in a 6-4 defeat at the UK Championship.

The Welsh prodigy, still just 23, beat Barry Hawkins at the Crucible a couple of seasons ago. He ranks 27th on the one-year list and will enjoy a breakout run at some point in the near future.

Page could bump into Allen again in the last 32, which we would give him a fighter's chance of winning but is enough to put us off the 16/1 that he wins his quarter – despite Ronnie O'Sullivan withdrawing from that section of the draw.

Instead, let's embrace the long-shot spirit and back him at 125/1 with Paddy Power or Betfair.
