Cheltenham 2025 Betting Tips: Selections for every race on Wednesday

Written by: Harry Fowler

We march onto day two at Cheltenham on Wednesday, where the feature race of the day is the Champion Chase at 4:00pm. Jonbon is the short-priced favourite and is looking to land the Festival success that he richly deserves.

On a tough opening day, we had a 15/2 winner alongside 11/1 and 14/1 places in the handicap races. That wasn't too bad in the grand scheme, with only two of the big four red-hot favourites winning. Let’s kick onto day two.

Cheltenham betting tips for Wednesday, March 12, 2025

1:20pm - Turners Novices' Hurdle

The New Lion was last seen when winning the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle over Christmas with absolute ease.

The form from that day hasn’t worked out tremendously, yet given how easily he won that day, the form would have had to have been off the scale good to show substance.

I feel he has the speed edge of the two at the top of the market, with Final Demand being more of a three-miler. So, I think on this good to soft ground, he will be able to use that pace and go by his market rival late on.

Harry's selection - The New Lion – 15/8 (General)

2:00pm - Brown Advisory Novices' Chase

Ballyburn is quite simply my strongest fancy of the week.

Last year’s Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle (now Turners) winner started over two miles this season. He was beaten well by the brilliant Sir Gino, before going up in trip at the Dublin Racing Festival where I think he was rather impressive.

I thought before the last he was going to get beat, but he powered away to win well in the end. This trip will suit – his pedigree suggests that – and he is a future Gold Cup horse. He is the classiest in the race and think he wins.

Harry's selection - Ballyburn - 8/11 (General)

2:40pm - Coral Cup

Be Aware has been progressing well this season, including a superb run in the Greatwood Hurdle here at Cheltenham when second behind Champion Hurdle second Burdett Road.

He has shaped as though this step up in trip will be perfect for him. the Coral Cup is one that Dan Skelton has won two years running with Langer Dan and he looks to have a great chance of making it a hat-trick with this horse.

Harry's selection - Be Aware - 5/1 (General)

3:20pm - Cross County Chase

Galvin ran a great race last season in the Grand National when finishing fourth and is now 1lb lower than that run.

The drying ground is very much in his favour and all signs are that he can run a great race for Gordon Elliot here who has a good record in this particular heat.

Harry's selection - Galvin - 15/4 (Paddy Power)

4:00pm - Champion Chase

Jonbon has been better than ever this season, looking untouchable at times. Regular readers of my column will know he's one of my strongest fancies this week.

In previous years, he has thrown in a couple of mistakes at his fences but he has jumped better than ever this term and just simply looks better than the rest here.

Harry's selection - Jonbon - 10/11 (Coral)

4:40pm - Grand Annual Chase

Jazzy Matty ran a cracker at this track in a messy Novices’ Chase last October.

He subsequently had a spin over hurdles when last seen in January, so you'd think he will be ready for this race, where he makes his handicap debut with cheekpieces back on.

He had them applied when winning the Fred Winter at the 2023 Festival. Think will run well here back on familiar territory, for what could be an emotional success.

Harry's selection - Jazzy Matty - 8/1 (William Hill)

5:20pm - Champion Bumper

It's bullish but I'm taking on the Mullins horses here, despite the master trainer having three strong-looking chances.

I’m actually drawn to Kalypsochance instead. In his first bumper, he was impressive as can be when winning by 15 lengths that day, before backing that up when in a stronger race beating two previous winners with a fair bit in hand.

He looks one that will be even better with a stronger gallop too, as he was keen early when winning last time.

Harry's selection - Kalypsochance - 5/1 (general)
