Liverpool secured a return to the Champions League in Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge at Anfield - but how will the Reds shape up under new head coach Arne Slot?

Odds Now take you through the betting markets to find the best value ahead of an exciting 2024/25 season on Merseyside.

How did Liverpool perform in 2023-24?

A surprise title charge came to a premature end for Liverpool last season. Klopp's men raised eyebrows to keep pace with Manchester City and Arsenal heading into April, but a string of poor results saw them bow out of the title picture in the final weeks of the campaign.

While Liverpool fans didn't get the dream ending to Klopp's tenure at Anfield, the German has left the squad in good shape ahead of a new era under Dutch head coach Slot. The latter took over the reigns at Anfield after a successful stint with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah predictably finished as top-scorer with 25 goals in all competitions. The Egyptian also managed the joint-highest assists alongside Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez (13).

What our Liverpool expert says

Brad Walker (@brad_TWalker): Liverpool fans are heading into the new season with a dose of anticipation mixed with apprehension.

No one really knows exactly what to expect, though there have been promising signs in pre-season. Friendlies must always be taken with a pinch of salt though, and there are countless examples of clubs struggling in the immediate aftermath of a figure like Jurgen Klopp departing. Manchester United and Arsenal - both of whom Liverpool defeated on their tour of the USA - come to mind.

The lack of transfer activity at Anfield isn't a huge surprise given the re-structuring at management level. Michael Edwards has returned, albeit in a broader role not exclusive to Liverpool, and Richard Hughes has taken over as sporting director.

One thing that remains a concern is the ongoing contract situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Many feel that pinning the 25-year-old down to a new, long-term deal could be the most important signing of the summer and it's hard to disagree.

Ultimately, this season is one of transition as Arne Slot looks to get his feet under the table in L4. A top four finish should be the aim and is more than realistic given the quality of the side, while another run in one of the cups would be a welcome bonus.

What to expect from Liverpool in 2024-25

The Reds are still in the early stages of the Arne Slot era and are awaiting their first major signing under the Dutchman. Nevertheless, much of the squad's rebuild took place in Klopp's final season in charge, featuring the acquisitions of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo in midfield.

The club are still said to be touting bringing in another defensive midfielder before the summer window ends, though, ahead of what could be a difficult maiden season for Slot in L4. Taking over the reins from a man not only as successful but also as popular as Klopp is no easy task, particularly given the quality of opposition in-and-around the Premier League top four heading into 2024-25.

In terms of season aspirations, qualification for the Champions League is a realistic aim as the club looks to find their feet under their new head coach. Even without any signings, this Liverpool squad is littered with quality and remains one of the standout sides in England's top-flight.

The club also added a 51st major trophy in the form of the League Cup last season. The squad proved their ability to compete on multiple fronts, going deep in both the title race and the Europa League before ultimately coming up short in those competitions.

Nevertheless, the less physically demanding style of Slot may cater to another shot at a major trophy to gleam in the Anfield cabinet.
