Leeds United look to get their promotion push back on track as they host out-of-form Sunderland at Elland Road in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds will be looking to respond after dropping out of the automatic promotion places over the weekend. Kick off is set for 8pm on Tuesday night.

Recent Form

Leeds United

Daniel Farke’s side took a heavy blow to their promotion hopes with a 2-1 defeat at Coventry City on Saturday. The result saw Leicester City overtake them while Leeds failed to capitalise on Ipswich Town’s defeat to Norwich City earlier in the day.

The international break came at a horrible time for Leeds, who have won just one of their last three games since the break . In comparison, they won 12 of their previous 13 in the league prior to the break. Being

back in home comforts will definitely help the Whites, with Leeds still unbeaten at Elland Road all season (W16, D4). Recent Player of the Year nominee Crysencio Summerville is bound to be the main threat with 17 goals and eight assists in the Championship this season.

What will worry Farke is Leeds’ terrible recent record against the Black Cats, as the Yorkshire side have won just one out of their last six against Sunderland (D1, L4), and none at Elland Road since a 2-0 win back in 2002 (D1, L3).

Sunderland

Sunderland’s season is all-but-over following their 0-0 draw with Bristol City last time out, leaving the Black Cats wallowing in 13th.

The Wearsiders’ form since sacking Michael Beale has been fatal for their play-off hopes, with only Rotherham (4) picking up less points in the last ten games than Sunderland (5). The loss of top scorer Jack Clarke has clearly affected Mike Dodds’ side, with Sunderland only able to muster up six goals in the eight games Clarke has missed, failing to score in four of them.

The main problem has been at the back, however, with 16 goals conceded in the last 10 games, including five in an embarrassing home defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday. Clarke’s return will be more than welcome for Dodds, with the ex-Leeds man becoming an away day specialist this season, with 12 of his 15 goals coming away from home.

Prediction

While Sunderland’s goal for the last five games is playing for pride and warming up to go again next season, Leeds still have their eyes on the ultimate prize of Premier League football.

Farke’s side have slogged along in recent weeks and are beginning to struggle but will be eyeing up their out-of-form opponents as an opportunity to not just get back on track points wise, but to also up their goal difference, which could be crucial come the end of the season.

OddsNow's Picks: Over 3.5+ goals scored (31/20 @ Betfair); Leeds to win both halves (19/20 @ SpreadEx)
