Girona host Barcelona with just two points separating the two sides on Saturday afternoon.

The home side have been La Liga's surprise package this season and can leapfrog their opponents with victory this weekend. Girona secured a 4-2 away win in December's reverse fixture. Kick-off is set for 5:30pm UK time.

Recent Form

Girona

Despite recent struggles on the road, Girona have been superb at Estadi Montilivi this term. Boasting the third-best home record in La Liga, only runaway leaders Real Madrid have left Girona with three points. They've also won each of their last four on home turf, scoring 12 goals in the process.

Míchel's men also reign as the division's highest-scoring home side with 42 goals, leaving them with an average of 2.63 per game. Girona have failed to find the net in just two home fixtures, and have scored three or more goals in nine of these matches.

Though they've averaged 1.06 goals conceded at home, Girona have still managed seven clean sheets on home turf. They have conceded two or more in five home matches, however.

Given Girona's recent struggles in away games, where they've lost four of their last five, three points are imperative here if they are to break into La Liga's top two.

Barcelona

A 3-2 loss at rivals Real Madrid has now left Barca looking over their shoulder. With Saturday's opponents within touching distance, avoiding defeat is a must if they are to remain sure of a top-two finish this season. Barca have since rebounded to the Madrid loss with a 4-2 home win over Valencia on Monday.

Their record on the road makes for positive reading; only Real Madrid boast a better away record this term, with the loss at the Bernabéu their only defeat on their travels. They're also the second-highest scoring away team in La Liga with 30 goals so far, leaving them with an average of 1.88 per game. Barca have failed to score in just two away fixtures this season.

With 18 goals conceded in away fixtures, Barca also boast the third-best defensive record on the road, keeping clean sheets in five away matches.

Prediction

The fixture is intriguing given both sides' respective records in home and away fixtures. Though the result remains tough to pick, one thing that can be expected is goals. Both Girona and Barcelona have shown a strong attacking output this season.

While the away side boast a strong defensive record on the road, it's hard to see them keeping out a Girona attack who have been rampant at Estadi Montilivi this term.
