Georgia and Greece meet in the EURO 2024 Path C Play-off Final on Tuesday night as both bid to reach the European Championships this summer.
The winners will join Portugal, Czech Republic and Turkey in Group F when the tournament gets underway in Germany this June. Kick off is set for 5pm UK time on Tuesday.
Georgia enjoyed a relatively comfortable passage to the final, beating ten man Luxembourg 2-0 on Thursday evening. They are looking to qualify for their first ever European Championships ahead of Tuesday's match.
Georgia gained entry to the play-offs due to their impressive performance in the UEFA Nations League, where they topped Group C4 after going unbeaten (W5,D1). Their defensive record was a key component in this success, having conceded just three goals in their six group matches. They managed sixteen goals across the campaign, averaging 2.7 goals per game.
Willy Sagnol’s team finished fourth in a difficult EURO 2024 qualifying group behind Spain, Scotland and Norway. Their only wins in the group came twice against Cyprus, (W2, D2, L4). They conceded eighteen goals across their eight matches, at an average of 2.25 goals per game. Georgia have tended to score plenty of goals though, managing twelve goals in Group A.
Georgia are likely to welcome back talisman Kvicha Kvaratskhelia for their crucial play-off final. The Napoli man was forced to sit out the Luxembourg game due to suspension. Kvaratskhelia scored four goals in qualifying and is the largest goal threat amongst the Georgian squad heading into one of the biggest nights in the nation's footballing history.
Greece will be determined to reach the finals in Germany, with the tournament falling 20 years after they were crowned European champions back in 2004. The Greeks eased into the play-off final with a sweeping 5-0 victory over Kazakhstan in Athens last week.
Like Georgia, Greece claimed a play-off spot after a successful Nations League campaign, which saw them top Group C2 (W5, L1). Gus Poyet’s team boasted a mightily impressive defensive record in the Nations League, conceding just two goals across their six matches. They scored ten goals in the group, at an average of 1.67 per match.
Greece were handed a very difficult task in their qualifying group, where they were drawn with France and the Netherlands. They finished third in the group behind the big-hitters, with thirteen points (W4,D1,L3). They scored fourteen goals in their eight matches at an average of 1.75 per match. They also produced another strong defensive showing, conceding just eight goals in the eight matches.
It is no surprise to see Greece come in as marginal favourites, when you consider that Georgia have never beaten Greece in nine senior clashes (L7,D2). Greece’s excellent defensive record, coupled with both sides' recent record for scoring plenty of goals, leads OddsNow to predict a goal-filled affair on Tuesday.
