Austria vs Turkey Team News

Austria winger Patrick Wimmer is suspended after receiving two yellow cards during the group stage. Ralf Rangnick will also be without centre-back Gernot Trauner due to a thigh injury.

Turkey will also be without two players; both Hakan Calhanoglu and Samet Akaydin will sit out through suspension after receiving their second yellow cards of the tournament versus the Czech Republic.

Austria vs Turkey Analysis and Predictions

Austria were undoubtedly the 'best of the rest' during the group stages. Marcel Sabitzer's 80th-minute strike not only secured all three points against the Netherlands but also secured a first-place finish in Group D, stunning both France and the Dutch in the process. With a whopping six goals to their name already, only Germany scored more goals than Rangnick's men during the group stage.

They come up against a Turkey side who have also been potent in front of goal, netting five goals across their three group matches. Vincenzo Montella's side have looked very susceptible at the back, though, averaging an alarming 1.59 xGA across their three matches. These two sides also met back in March, where Austria produced a stunning 6-1 victory in Vienna.

Coupled with them missing crucial midfield anchor Hakan Calhanoglu, we're finding it hard to back Turkey enjoying much success here. The continued leaky Turkey defence, coupled with Austria's clinical nature in front of goal, leads us to believe Rangnick and co will prevail to the quarter-finals.
