European football-chasing Eintracht Frankfurt and Augsburg collide at the Deutsche Bank Park on Friday evening.

Both sides harbour ambitions of competing in European competition next term, with just three points separating the two heading into the clash. Kick-off is set for 7:30pm UK time.

Recent Form

Eintracht Frankfurt

The hosts come into the game on the back of a damaging 3-0 away loss to Stuttgart last weekend. The result means Dino Toppmoller's side are now winless in their last four in the Bundesliga, severely hampering their momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. Nevertheless, Frankfurt still occupy sixth spot and remain poised for a place in next season's UEFA Conference League, providing they avoid defeat on Friday night.

Their home form rates as the sixth-best in the division, with Frankfurt averaging 1.79 points across their 14 outings at Deutsche Bank Park so far (W6, D7, L1). They are also unbeaten in their last six Bundesliga matches there.

An average of 1.64 goals scored at home is impressive, but it's in defensive quarters where Frankfurt have really excelled; just 0.93 goals conceded on average is combined with clean sheets in 36% of home fixtures. Frankfurt have also conceded one goal or less in 79% of these matches.

Combined with their healthy attacking output, which has seen them score in 86% of home games, it's little wonder Toppmoller's men are on the cusp of European qualification once again.

Augsburg

The away side are no doubt in the better form out of the two. Six wins in their last Bundesliga matches sees them move within three points of Friday's opponents. Frankfurt boast the better goal difference of the two, though Augsburg are only three goals behind and could close that gap at Deutsche Bank Park with a victory. They will also be buoyed by their 2-1 home victory in the reverse fixture.

Augsburg's record on the road this season has been far from convincing, though; their 1.07 points averaged across 14 away outings has hampered their progress, and they've also lost two of their last five away matches.

A healthy attacking output of 1.5 goals scored on their travels has been undone by a leaky defence which has shipped, on average, 1.71 goals in away fixtures. Just 7% of their away games have ended in clean sheets, with 50% of these matches seeing them ship two or more goals.

Given Frankfurt's tendency to find the net in home games while plugging gaps at the back, Augsburg will need to keep a tight ship if they are to leave with a crucial victory.

Prediction

Frankfurt are out of form right now, but their strong overall home form combined with Augsburg's struggles on the road make a home victory the sensible pick in this one.
