Chelsea play host to West Ham this weekend as the home side continue their push for a spot in Europe next season.

West Ham will be hoping for a change of fortunes based on their recent form and will hope to replicate their 3-1 win from earlier on in the season against ‘The Blues’.

Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm UK time on Sunday afternoon.

Recent Form

Chelsea

Chelsea come into the game following a 2-0 win over rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been inconsistent at home this year, but have not lost at Stamford Bridge since the beginning of February. They have managed to pick up 31 points from a possible 51 at the ‘Bridge’, averaging 1.82 points per game.

In their 17 games that they have hosted, they have scored 37 goals, which works out to 2.2 goals averaged per game at home this season. A huge factor to this success has been their top goalscorer, Cole Palmer who has scored 15 goals at Stamford Bridge this year.

Defensively they have not been as assured, conceding 25 across the calendar season, averaging 1.47 goals conceded at home per game. Only managing to keep five clean sheets in 17 games, they have been a team that leaks goals when playing at home.

West Ham

In contrast to their opponents on Sunday, West Ham’s season in recent weeks has gone in a downward spiral and is gradually fizzling out. An uneasy run since the start of February has left them one spot below Chelsea in 9th

David Moyes’ side come into this game off the back of a hard-fought draw against Liverpool last weekend. A 2-2 draw against the title challengers was achieved with goals from Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio. This was preceded by two bad losses against Fulham and Crystal Palace in weeks before.

The Irons have shown positive signs on the road this year, picking up 23 points in 17 games, the seventh best in the league. Scoring 28 goals, averaging 1.65 goals away from home per game.

Like their opponents, their defense hasn’t been quite as astute, conceding 38 goals in 17 games when playing away from home this season, leaving them with a -10-goal difference on the road. On top of this Moyes’ side have opnly kept one clean sheet away from home, a worrying stat going into Sunday’s fixture.

Prediction

After Chelsea’s recent turn of form, this poses to be a difficult challenge for West Ham on Sunday, despite their seemingly decent form on the road this season. OddsNow back Chelsea to take all three points at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
