Sheffield Wednesday host Swansea City on Friday afternoon in desperate need of three points to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Kick-off is set for 3pm UK time at Hillsborough.

Recent Form

Sheffield Wednesday

The home side come into the match after two consecutive defeats. Their last outing saw a 6-0 ousting at Ipswich Town, a week after they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

Wednesday find themselves in 23rd position, one point away from Birmingham City in 17th place.

Their home form has been solid this season, preventing them from being cut further adrift. After 19 matches, they've averaged 1.32 points per game (W7, D4, L8) which leaves them with the 16th best home record in the division.

Wednesday have still conceded 23 goals compared to the 20 they've scored at Hillsborough, though, but will be buoyed after keeping clean sheets in 26% of those matches. They've conceded an average of 1.21 per home game, and have shipped at least two in 32%.

Going forward, they've averaged 1.05 goals per game which falls slightly below their expected goal (xG) projection of 1.14. They have however scored at least two goals in 32% of home matches.

Swansea City

The away side currently occupy 15th position, seven points from the relegation zone but 15 points away from the play-offs. With little to play for, there's always a risk of a dip in performance as the season enters the final stretch.

No such signs were in place last time out though when Swansea overcame fierce rivals Cardiff City with a 2-0 home win. The victory marked three in the last five for the Welsh outfit, who will be confident of adding another in South Yorkshire.

The Swans' away form exactly matches their record at home, with an average 1.21 points per game taken so far (W6, D5, L8). Their 26 goals scored on the road (1.37 per game) exceeds their projected xG of 1.18, with Swansea scoring in an impressive 84% of away matches so far. 42% have seen at least two goals from the Welsh side.

Their defensive stats aren't quite as impressive, though. 32 goals concedes makes for an average of 1.68 on the road, falling below their projected xGA of 1.49. Swansea have kept clean sheets in just 16% of away matches, and have conceded at least two in 47%.

Prediction
