Luton Town have the opportunity to move out of the relegation zone as they go head-to-head with Brentford in a relegation six-pointer in the Premier League.

A defeat for the Bees will drag Thomas Frank’s side back into the relegation dogfight, whilst a Hatters defeat leaves them in a perilous position with four games to play. Kick-off at Kenilworth Stadium is set for 3pm on Saturday.

Recent Form

Luton Town

Luton’s late season collapse continued with a 5-1 thrashing at champions Manchester City last week, making it just one win in their last 12 league games (D3, L8).

The Hatters have also failed to keep a clean sheet in that run and have only kept two clean sheets in the league all season, only beating Sheffield United (1) in this metric.

Rob Edwards’ side have faired better at the other end of the pitch though, scoring 46 goals in their 33 games, considerably better than the sides around them, whilst scoring in every home game since a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in early October. Luton are also exceeding their expected goals (xG) tally by 7.1 goals.

Luton also have a poor record against Brentford, losing their last three against the Bees and five of their last six competitive meetings (W1), including a 7-0 thrashing at Griffin Park in 2019.

Brentford

Brentford have begun to recover from a horrendous 2024 in recent weeks, defeating Sheffield United 2-0 last weekend to stretch their unbeaten run since the international break to four games (D3).

The Bees have underperformed, according to their average xG, by six so far this season, but the loss of Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo for large parts of the season have contributed hugely to the mess Thomas Frank’s side are in.

At the other end of the pitch, Brentford have been equally poor, conceding 58 goals from 49.9 expected, although this is significantly better than Luton’s 70 goals from 69.7 expected.

Brentford have also struggled away from home this season, winning just eleven points on their travels, and just four points since the start of November.

Prediction

Both sides have endured a difficult few months that have deepened their relegation fears massively, especially for the visitors who would never have expected to be in this position at the start of the season.

Brentford have however shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, particularly in a 3-3 draw at Villa Park where they fought from two goals down to eventually draw with an in-form Aston Villa side. Luton are also yet to register a home win against any of the sides in the bottom six, and so OddsNow anticipate the Bees securing another important three points to further ensure their Premier League status for next season.
