Liverpool vs Everton: 12/5 Merseyside derby betting tip

Liverpool and Everton renew their historic rivalry when the pair meet at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

Our man Brad Walker (@brad_TWalker) has cast his eyes over the fixture and put up a 12/5 fancy ahead of kick-off on Merseyside.

Liverpool vs Everton analysis - Reds in need of derby uplift

Arne Slot's Liverpool have been pretty faultless for the majority of this season, but the week prior to the international break was certainly the toughest so far in the Dutchman's short tenure at Anfield.

Elimination from the Champions League at the hands of PSG was swiftly followed by defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, meaning Liverpool will likely have to settle for *just* winning the Premier League this term.

Slot's players look as though they were finally starting to feel the pace of the increasingly demanding life of the elite European football circuit and will have been grateful to have been given last weekend off.

Still, if this Liverpool crop needed a pick-me-up ahead of the final stretch of the campaign, the visit of city rivals Everton to Anfield should provide plenty of motivation.

The Toffees have enjoyed a resurgence since David Moyes' return to the club and make the short trip across Stanley Park unbeaten in their last nine mathces.

Everton's troubles in front of goal were well-documented during the early stages of the season, but the visitors have now found the back of the net at least once in nine of their last ten outings in all competitions.

Liverpool to win & BTTS - 12/5

Even with their recent struggles, it's hard to see anything other than a Liverpool win in this game. The Reds head into this week with a 12 point lead at the league summit, though that could be cut to nine if Arsenal beat Fulham the night before, and have only lost one league match all season.

Everton have also picked up just one win at Anfield this century. Even that sole victory took place during the COVID era without the presence of fans, so while Everton have certainly improved under Moyes, no one can make a case for them winning this one with any real conviction.

Still, I've already mentioned their impressive recent record in front of goal. Add in Liverpool's unconvincing performance in defensive quarters and the visitors at least grabbing a goal on Wednesday isn't out of the question.

Slot's men have kept only three clean sheets in their last 10 in all competitions and have certainly been more vulnerable at the back since the turn of the year. Only four of their 12 league clean sheets have occurred this calendar year.

All in all, while it's hard to look past the home win, backing Everton to at least land a glove on their neighbours at a very fair 12/5 looks an angle worth pursuing to me.
