Leeds and Bristol City meet in a high-stakes Championship encounter on Monday evening - concluding the second tier’s penultimate round of fixtures for the 2024-25 season.
Matt Hill (@Matt_Hill93) is on hand to take a closer look at a seismic clash and picks out two fancies.
A week on from sealing their promotion back to the Premier League, Leeds must now look to refocus as they chase the first of two victories which would land them the Championship title.
Daniel Farke’s side have been the dominant force in a typically intriguing second-tier promotion race, always looking the strongest of the bunch but sometimes failing to convert their obvious class into the points it has merited.
Just one win from five in March seemed to have opened the door for Burnley and Yorkshire foes Sheffield United to snatch the two automatic spots from under their nose – yet the latter’s subsequent struggles offered a reprieve, which the Whites have grasped with both hands.
A final-day trip to virtually relegated Plymouth now looks significantly less stressful, given the Pilgrims’ fate was all but mathematically confirmed on Saturday. So, tonight’s home game with Bristol City does appear the one real banana skin between them and further glory.
The Robins are chasing history of their own, having not played in England’s top flight since the 1979-80 season.
A brilliant campaign for the South West outfit means they need one victory from their final two matches to seal a first play-off berth since 2008 – where they suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 final defeat to Hull City.
Liam Manning’s men know going to Elland Road in these circumstances is a fearsome task and the 5/1 available on an away win certainly reflects as much.
At least if they do fall short here, they have the fallback of a home game on the final day with relegation-threatened Preston to seal their spot in the end-of-season shootout.

Playing the Leeds win tonight will appeal to many punters but at a general 1/2, there’s not much juice.
Instead, the best ploy may be backing the hosts to continue a recent trend of rapid starts.
The Whites have been hot out of the blocks all campaign and recently, have found themselves in front inside the opening 10 minutes in a remarkable six of their last 10 fixtures – including their last three at Elland Road.
And while the visitors have taken a solid 18 points from their last 10 outings, clean sheets have been in short supply. The Robins have conceded in all of their last nine, and found themselves falling behind in six of those.
A raucous atmosphere is assured and given what’s at stake, I am struggling to see a scenario where we don’t see another fast start for the favourites.
Therefore, the 5/1 on Leeds to find themselves in front inside the first 10 minutes with Betfair makes huge appeal. We can balance the risk somewhat too, by staking higher on the 11/10 about the home side to be leading at half-time, available with William Hill.
Ultimately, while both teams have much to play for, Bristol City’s campaign does not rest solely on tonight’s outcome – whereas Leeds’ fate very much does.
2pts - Leeds to be leading at half-time vs Bristol City - 11/10 (William Hill)
0.5pts - Leeds to be leading after 10 minutes vs Bristol City - 5/1 (Betfair)
