European giants are set to collide as France take on Germany at the Groupama Stadium on Saturday evening.

The two sides meet in an international friendly as they amp up preparations for the summer's European Championships. Kick-off is set for 8pm UK time.

Recent Form

France

The home side are currently on a four-match unbeaten run, with their last defeat being a 2-1 loss in Germany back September. France finished top of Group B in EURO 2024 qualifying on 22 points, four points ahead of the Netherlands in second position.

No side in qualifying had a higher expected goal (xG) than France at 2.57, while only Spain and England had a better expected goal against (xGA) tally, with France averaging 0.73.

France also had the highest average of goals scored per game in qualifying (3.63) after totalling an impressive 29 goals overall. 21 of these goals came on home soil alongside an xG of 2.79 - with only Portugal recording higher in home matches.

France also kept clean sheets in all four of their home matches, registering an average xGA of just 0.7 on home turf.

Germany

Julian Nagelsmann's side automatically qualified for the summer's European Championships as hosts, but have been a team in turmoil recently with only two wins in their last ten games. They have also lost their last two matches; away at Austria (2-0) and at home to Turkey (3-2).

Their average xG in their last five matches has stood at 1.5, but this is overshadowed by their xGA, which has stood at a worrying 2.2. Their xG does rise to 1.86 away from home however, while their xGA is also slightly lower on their travels (1.29).

Prediction

Despite Germany's tendency to perform better on the road, it's difficult to look past a home win on Saturday evening. France remain the outstanding team on the international stage and will surely be favourites to become European champions this summer.

The home side were also rampant in front of goal during qualifying, particularly in home games, while Germany have also created more going forward in away games. Goals can be expected this weekend.
