We're set for yet another action-packed mid-week schedule, with both domestic and European fixtures scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening.

Odds Now's Brad Walker takes a closer look at the match-ups on offer in the Champions League to see where the best value may lie.

Brad Walker's best Champions League bets for Tuesday, October 1st, 2024

RB Salzburg to beat Brest (4/5) - 1 pt

Bayer Leverkusen to beat AC Milan (8/11) - 1 pt

PSV to beat Sporting Lisbon (17/11) - 1 pt

RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen & PSV treble (6.79/1) - 0.5 pt

Selection #1 - RB Salzburg to beat Brest (4/5)

The hosts head into their second home European fixture of the season in solid form.

Having beaten FC Twente 2-1 at home back in August, Salzburg are now unbeaten in their last two Champions League matches at the Red Bull Arena.

And while their first match of the Champions League 'proper' ended in defeat - 3-0 away to Sparta Prague earlier this month - Salzburg have since rebounded by going unbeaten in their last three in all competitions.

Combined with their impressive home record, where they've lost just once in their last 12 matches, it's little surprise to see Pep Ljinders' side enter odds-on favourites at 4/5.

The form of opponents Brest only strengthens the case for a home win, particularly given their abysmal record in away fixtures in recent times.

Eric Roy's men have not won any of their last eight away matches in all competitions, five of which ended in defeat. To their credit, the French club did get off to a winning start in their first ever match in the Champions League last time out, when they defeated Sturm Graz 2-1 at the Stade Francis Le Blé.

The game does mean they've kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 though, making for an ominous read as they prepare to face a Salzburg side who have scored in 10 of their last 12 matches.

Selection #2 - Bayer Leverkusen to beat AC Milan (8/11)

Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen side set themselves the almost impossible task of matching last season's ridiculously high standards.

The success the German club enjoyed was well-documented and has, to an extent, continued into this campaign.

Leverkusen have taken 10 points from a possible 15 in the Bundesliga and also romped to a 4-0 away win at Feyenoord in their opening fixture in this competition.

And while much was made of their unbeaten home streak coming to an end against RB Leipzig in August, the response of Alonso's men has only strengthened claims that they are around for the long run.

The same can't quite be said of their opponents AC Milan, though.

Paulo Fonseca took over the San Siro hotseat this summer but took just two points from their opening three Serie A matches in August.

Milan have since won three on the bounce in the league but also tasted defeat in their opening Champions League match, losing 3-1 to an admittedly impressive Liverpool side despite having taken an early lead.

All in all, significant questions remain over this Milan side's ability to compete, particularly against stronger opposition at European level. A Leverkusen win at a best price of 8/11 looks the safest bet to me.

Selection #3 - PSV to beat Sporting Lisbon (17/11)

Peter Bosz's side have got off to a great start to the new season, losing just two of their opening nine competitive fixtures so far.

While they remain unbeaten in the Eredivisie, one of those losses did come to Juventus earlier this month, where PSV came up short with a 3-1 defeat

Nevertheless, the Dutch side remain unbeaten in their last six home matches in the Champions League. In fact, a surprise 1-0 defeat to Rangers back in August 2022 remains their only loss in 12 at the Philips Arena in this competition - a run which saw them take points off both Arsenal and last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

It's fair to say Ruben Amorim's side face a stern task when they travel to Eindhoven therefore, though Sporting are hardly in poor form themselves.

The Portuguese outfit have won all of their last eight competitive matches - including a 2-0 home win over Lille in their opening European fixture. Remarkably, Sporting have also registered six consecutive clean sheets during that period.

PSV signify a significant step-up in quality, though. Prior to the victory over Lille, Sporting had not competed in the Champions League since 2022 and so have not faced the same high-calibre opposition as their Dutch counterparts.

For this reason, I am swaying towards a home victory here, particularly given the scalps PSV have picked up on home turf in recent times. Lisbon have been superb in domestic competition but are yet to match their output across the continent.
