Egypt are set to host New Zealand in an international friendly on Friday in the home side's first outing since a disappointing African Cup of Nations campaign earlier this year.
Kick-off is set for 8pm UK time at the Cairo International Stadium.
The home side come into the match on the back of an underwhelming showing at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year. The Pharoahs were knocked out at the round-of-sixteen stage following defeat to Congo on penalties. Rui Vitoria's side drew all three of their group stage games to finish second in Group B before losing in the first knockout stage.
Egypt scored a total of seven goals at AFCON 2024, whilst also conceding seven in the process. Also, in their last ten international friendlies, the home side have won four, drawn five and lost only once.
During that time, Egypt recorded an expected goal (xG) tally of 1.91 per match, whilst scoring an average of 1.6 goals. Their last ten have averaged 2.6 goals per match.
Egypt have scored in each of their last ten friendly games, while keeping a clean sheet in four. They've scored two or more goals in five of those matches, whilst conceding at least two in four.
Darren Bazeley's side head to North Africa in shaky form. Their last ten outings have seen them record just two wins, whilst drawing three and losing five.
New Zealand have only scored six goals in that time, despite conceding 14 at the other end. Despite averaging an expected goal (xG) tally of 1.45 goals per match, the Kiwis have averaged just 0.6 in their last ten. The worrying stat is compounded upon inspection of their defensive performance, with New Zealand conceding 1.4 goals per match (with an expected goals against of 1.46).
They've also only managed two clean sheets in their last ten whilst failing to score in five. New Zealand have scored two or more goals in just one of their last ten, but have conceded two or more in four matches during that same period.
The away side's leaky defence makes it difficult to look past Egypt in this one. The hosts will also be buoyed by Mohamed Salah's return to fitness and look likely to come out on top on the moneyline.
