Denmark host Switzerland in a friendly in Copenhagen on Saturday as both sides step up their preparations for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

Kick-off is set for 7pm UK time at Parkden Stadium.

Recent Form

Denmark

A 2-0 defeat in Northern Ireland for a much-changed lineup ended Denmark’s five-match winning run - after they had already secured qualification for EURO 2024.

The Group H table-toppers enjoyed a 100% home record, with 13 goals scored and just three conceded in their five victories. Their expected goals (xG) tally of 2.14 during home games was less than their actual goals netted of 2.6, while their expected goals against (xGA) of 0.62 yielded 0.6 goals conceded per game.

Kasper Hjulmand’s team mustered a less impressive seven points from their five away matches, including conceding group whipping boys San Marino’s first competitive goal in two years.

There were more than 2.5 goals scored in 80% of the qualifying matches in Denmark, with both teams scoring in 60%.

Switzerland

Switzerland have gone four matches without a win after a stuttering end to their Euros qualifying campaign. A 1-0 defeat in Bucharest in November’s final round of fixtures saw them surrender their Group I unbeaten record - and, with it, top spot - to Romania. It was also the first time they had failed to score in a match since their defeat to Brazil by the same scoreline at the World Cup.

The Swiss, whose five draws was the joint highest of any team in qualifying (shared with Kosovo), netted ten goals and conceded five in their five away fixtures. The xG and xGA stats for their matches on the road were 1.8 and 0.99, respectively.

There were over 3.5 goals scored in 40% of Murat Yakin’s side’s group games, with both teams scoring in 60%. A maiden international win over Denmark would be six years to the day after Switzerland’s last victory in an away friendly.

Prediction

Only Northern Ireland and San Marino failed to score in Euro 2024 qualifiers in Denmark, so the hosts will do well to shut out the free-scoring Swiss. However, the Danes must still be favoured to edge Switzerland and register an eighth successive win on home soil.
