Focus shifts back to the Carabao Cup on Wednesday when manager-less Southampton host Liverpool at St Mary's Stadium.

Odds Now's Brad Walker has picked out a tidy 9/2 bet-builder ahead of kick-off on the south coast.

Odds Now's Southampton vs Liverpool bet-builder selections

Selection #1 - Both teams to score - yes

While Southampton's struggles this season have been well-documented, the Saints have actually made habit of finding the back of the net on their own patch in recent times.

The 5-0 loss to Tottenham, which was swiftly followed by the sacking of manager Russell Martin on Sunday, was the first time they'd failed to score at home six matches in all competitions.

And while Liverpool boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, Arne Slot's men have conceded five goals in their last two league outings.

Add the side's previous meeting at this venue earlier in the season, a match which saw both teams score in a 3-2 Liverpool win, then it's more than reasonable to expect more goals in this one.

Selection #2 - Over 2 goals

Only Wolves have conceded more than the 36 goals shipped by the Saints so far.

50% of Southampton's matches this term have seen three or more goals, with this number rising to 63% in home fixtures.

Liverpool's outings have also seen their fair share of goalscoring action.

60% of their matches have seen at least three scored, a number which again rises to a whopping 71% away from home.

Selection #3 - Cody Gakpo to have over 1.5 shots on target

The Dutch forward loves playing in the Carabao Cup, having seen plenty of involvement across Liverpool's two victories in the competition so far.

Gakpo started both games and has averaged three shots on target across those outings.

Add in the poor defensive record of Southampton, who have kept just one clean sheet in 16 league outings so far, then backing former PSV man to enjoy more success in this one could prove very fruitful indeed.
