Aston Villa continue to chase a spot in the next round of the Champions League when they host Celtic on Wednesday evening.

Both of these sides are already guaranteed a place in the play-off round, but hosts Aston Villa know victory could land them a spot in the automatic qualification places.

Other results must also go their way in order for this need to happen due to the damage inflicted by their 1-0 loss at Monaco last week.

Nevertheless, that defeat is their only loss in their last seven in all competitions and Unai Emery's men still rightly come in firm 8/15 favourites.

Visitors Celtic head to the west Midlands in stellar form themselves, having picked up five wins in their last six.

That run includes a 1-0 home win over Young Boys last time out, securing them a spot in the play-off round in the process.

Aston Villa win hard to turn down

A raucous atmosphere lies in wait at Villa Park.

Villa are yet to lose a home fixture in this competition this term, having won two and drawn one of their three outings on home turf so far.

For all of their success though, Villa's home matches in Europe have tended to be quite tight in terms of goals scored.

Emery's side have only averaged 1.14xG so far, with three goals scored.

In fact, those three games have averaged a mere 1.86 goals in total, largely due to Villa's strong defensive record.

They are yet to concede a goal on home turf in the Champions League and welcome a Celtic side who are yet to win on the road so far.

Brendan Rodgers' side have only scored once across their three away games, where they've conceded seven goals.

All of these came in a 7-1 defeat at Borussia Dortmund at the start of October, though two 0-0 draws against Atalanta and Dinamo Zagreb have since followed.

Ultimately, it's hard to look past this Villa side, particularly given the added onus on the fixture from their point of view.

The Midlanders have also scored two goals in four of their last five home appearances in all competitions and should be backed to win well here.
