Sevilla host Copa del Rey runners-up Mallorca at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Monday evening.

Both sides need a win to avoid a potential relegation battle. Prior to this weekend's fixtures, 13th-placed Sevilla are only three points clear of Mallorca in 15th and nine points clear of the relegation zone. Mallorca won the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier in the season. Kick-off is set for 8pm UK time.

Recent Form

Sevilla

The current Europa League Champions have endured a torrid season and are set for a second consecutive bottom-half-of-the-table finish, following three fourth-place finishes between 2020 and 2022.

Despite being 15th in the table, the home side have improved recently. They have only lost two of their last ten league matches, gaining 1.8 points per game – the fourth-best record in the league during this period.

However, one of the principal reasons for their highly disappointing season has been their home form. Quique Sánchez Flores’ men have gained only 1.13 points per game at home all season, the fifth-worst record in La Liga.

Although their home form looked to be picking up, recently defeating two of last season’s top four in Athletico Madrid and Real Sociedad at home, they followed this up with a 2-1 home loss to 17th-placed Celta Vigo in their most recent outing on home turf.

Sevilla have underperformed at home all season, scoring only 1.4 home goals a game from an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.75 and conceding 1.53 goals a game from an expected goals against (xGA) tally of 1.34.

Youssef En-Nesyri will likely be key to any potential Sevilla win. The striker has 11 La Liga goals so far this campaign (seven more than any other Sevilla player) and is in good form, having scored four in his last five league matches.

Mallorca

The away side come into this game knowing that a defeat could potentially put them only three points clear of the relegation zone by the end of the matchweek if results go against them. Javier Aguirre’s side have been woeful on their travels all season, having gained 0.6 points per game - the fourth worst record in the league, having won only once away all season.

Their primary focus of concern is their offensive power away from home. They have scored the joint second-fewest number of away goals in the league despite conceding the same number of away goals as third-placed Girona. Vedat Muriqi, who scored 15 La Liga goals last season (40% of their final total goal tally), has really struggled this season, only scoring five goals so far this campaign.

Mallorca have underperformed offensively and defensively on the road this season, scoring 0.73 away goals from an xG of 1.04 and conceding 1.53 away goals a game from an xGA of 1.49.

Mallorca have been well known for their low-scoring games, with each of their last eight matches in all competitions having less than 2.5 total goals scored.

Prediction

Mallorca come into this game low in confidence, having not scored in three of the last five league matches, and are unlikely to change their pragmatic approach on Monday.

OddsNow believe this will play into a freshly resurgent Sevilla’s hands, who have a mostly fully fit squad high in confidence, having scored in each of their last five league matches.
