Arsenal took last season's Premier League title race down to the wire — but are Mikel Arteta’s men capable of going one better in 2024-25?
We take a closer look at the Gunners’ prospects this term and how best to play them from a punting perspective in our team betting guide.
Arteta's men came agonisingly close to landing a first Premier League title since 2004. Finishing runners-up for the second year running, the North Londoners took the title race to the final day but were unable to prevent Manchester City being crowned champions for a record fourth consecutive season.
Winger Bukayo Saka finished as the club's top goalscorer, finding the net 20 times across all competitions. Saka also topped the assists charts for Arsenal, mustering 14 for his side throughout the campaign.
While the team's attacking output was impressive — only champions City bettered their 91 league goals — it was the defensive record of the Gunners which really caught the eye. No team conceded fewer than the 29 goals they shipped in the Premier League, where they also kept clean sheets in 18 of their 38 matches.

Danny Ryan (DannyRyan94): For Arsenal, last season has to be the final revision session, it is time to go and pass the exam!
Mikel Arteta's boys proved in 2023-24 that they can match any Premier League team in both defence and attack, so there can be no more excuses, the Gunners simply have to win the title in 2024-25.
Last term was the best I have seen an Arsenal side play since 2003-04 and the fact we went unbeaten against the so-called 'Top Six' is a sign of how far the club has come since the banter era.
And confidence is rightly high among supporters, partly due to the fact our division-leading defence looks even stronger going into the new season.
Ricardo Calafiori may finally be the long-term answer at left-back, while Jurrien Timber is back and will feel like a brand new signing (sorry to borrow a cliché).
If we can bolster our midfield options and add either a speedy winger who can operate on both flanks or a world-class striker, there is absolutely no reason why we cannot compete on all fronts.
What are my honest predictions for 2024-25? I really feel like this is the season Arsenal bring an end to decades of hurt and us fans will get to see Martin Odegaard lifting that beautiful trophy next May.
We can also compete for Champions League glory, although I do not expect us to get our hands on ol' Big Ears as well, especially now that Kylian Mbappe has joined Real Madrid!
Last season saw a marked improvement from the Gunners compared to their 2022-23 exploits. Arteta's men were resolute at the back, boasting the division's best defensive record, and were equally as impressive in attacking areas.
One area they were perhaps lacking was up top, though. Gabriel Jesus managed a measly eight goals across all competitions, including only four in the Premier League. Kai Havertz somewhat plugged the gap with 13 league efforts but is still far short of a natrual goalscorer. Failure to bring in a more established number nine before the end of the window could cost them again.
Nevertheless, this Arsenal side is one on the rise at a time where their main title rivals could be faltering.
While City did eventually lift the Premier League trophy, Guardiola's side no doubt showed signs of a side which may be slipping ahead of what could be the Spaniard's final season at the Etihad.
Liverpool are also finding their feet under new head coach Arne Slot, perhaps providing the perfect timing for an Arsenal team who may be reaching their peak at the best possible moment.
Coming in at just shy of 2/1 on the outright market, backing Arteta's men to go one better and lift their first title in over two decades could prove a very astute pick come May.
Forward Bukayo Saka enjoyed his best season yet in Arsenal colours last season and, buoyed by more success at the European Championships this summer, should be backed to enjoy an equally fruitful campaign this time around.
