Relegation rivals Huddersfield Town and Millwall collide at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday afternoon as both sides look to boost their survival chances.
The hosts come into the game in 22nd on 40 points, four behind their opponents this weekend who currently occupy 19th. Huddersfield drew 1-1 with Stoke City last weekend, while Millwall were stunned by a 2-1 away defeat to bottom side Rotherham United. Kick-off is set for 3pm UK time.
Huddersfield have failed to build on last season's 18th finish and find themselves under serious threat of dropping down to League One. Their overall form has been poor all season, though they have fared slightly better on home soil, with an average of 1.1 points per home game so far compared to only 0.9 in away fixtures. Huddersfield have still lost three of their last five at the John Smith's Stadium, though.
Goals haven't been a huge issue, with an average of 1.2 scored in their 20 home fixtures. Huddersfield have also scored in 80% of home matches, though only 25% have seen them score two or more.
Their main problem has been in defence, where they've conceded an average of 1.55 goals and kept clean sheets in just 20% of home games. Their last three home matches have seen a total of eight goals conceded.
The away side come into the game four points away from the relegation zone but will no doubt be hurting from the defeat in Rotherham last weekend. In a game where most backed them to take the three points, Millwall squandered numerous chances before succumbing to their ninth defeat on the road this season.
Their overall away form has been a worry, with only 1.05 points per game averaged across their 20 outings on the road so far. Millwall have also won just one of their four away matches since manager Neil Harris returned to the club in February.
They've also managed just 1.05 goals per away game so far, and though they've only failed to score in 30% of these fixtures, just 25% have seen them net two or more. Millwall have also struggled to create chances, recording a lowly expected goal (xG) tally of only 0.9 on the road thus far.
Their defensive statistics have also been a cause for concern; 1.25 goals conceded per away game might not appear disastrous, but Millwall have conceded two or more goals in 40% of away fixtures so far. Coupled with Huddersfield's tendency to find the net, such readings don't bode well for the away side ahead of a crucial relegation six-pointer.
Neither side have impressed this season, but Huddersfield's home advantage makes them the go-to pick in this one. They tend to score in their home fixtures, and though they've struggled with conceding goals at the John Smith's Stadium, this toothless Millwall side shouldn't present much difficulty at the other end of the pitch.
