England will have to make do without centre-back Marc Guehi, who is suspended after receiving his second yellow card of the competition in the match against Slovakia. Aston Villa's Erik Konza and Liverpool's Joe Gomez are among the names touted to replace the Crystal Palace defender.
Meanwhile, Switzerland manager Murat Yakin has no injury concerns to contend with ahead of the match in Dusseldorf.
The recurring theme of England's EURO 2024 campaign so far has been a lack of creativity in the final third. This was again present in their recent 2-1 victory over Slovakia in the last 16, where Gareth Southgate's side relied on a 94th-minute bicycle kick from Jude Bellingham to take the game to extra-time.
Remarkably, a Harry Kane header then fired the Three Lions ahead in the opening minute of extra-time to see them reach the quarter-finals for a fourth successive tournament. A meeting with the Swiss on Saturday will be by far their sternest test yet this summer, though, and a similarly drab performance will likely see the tournament favourites knocked out in Dusseldorf.
That was the same fate Luciano Spalletti's Italy side met last Saturday. Goals from Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas saw Switzerland dump the reigning champions out of the competition, sending Murat Yakin's men through to the quarter-finals for a second consecutive European Championships.
The Swiss finished second in Group A, beating Hungary and drawing with Scotland, before coming agonisingly close to defeating hosts Germany. A 92nd-minute equaliser by Nicolas Fullkrug meant they had to settle for a point but, nevertheless, Yakin's side have impressed this summer despite an unconvincing showing in qualifying.
Ultimately, at least on paper, England should have too much at the Dusseldorf Arena. Despite flattering to deceive so far, they will surely take confidence from their last-gasp victory last time out. The disappointing performance should also see more changes by Southgate, including a place for the likes of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon in the starting lineup.
With all this in mind, we back the Three Lions to finally kickstart their tournament with a win over the Swiss this weekend.
