Former Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton is delighted to see Brennan Johnson finding his feet in north London and has backed the winger to keep producing the goods against Brighton this weekend.

Spurs take on the Seagulls at the Amex in what could be a pivotal game in their quest to keep up with the Premier League's early leading pack.

Johnson has scored five goals in nine appearances in all competitions so far this season - a figure which matches his total haul across the entirety of the previous campaign.

Anderton: Johnson quality "never in doubt"

Spurs legend Anderton, who played 299 times for the Lilywhites, admits he never doubted the Welshman would find his feet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Odds Now, via Free Bets, Anderton said: "He has been great and I’m so pleased for him.

"[I have] no idea why he came under scrutiny earlier on in the season as he works so hard, you can see he has the talent and his goalscoring record in recent weeks has been excellent and well deserved.

"It’s not often now you have a right footed player on the right wing, as some have a left footed player cutting in. This shows his talent, skill and knowing where to make the runs in the box. Long may it continue as he is the type of player you want in your team, hard working and a team player."

Johnson is available for a generous best price of 9/1 with various bookmakers to score first at the Amex, and also comes in 11/4 to score anytime on Sunday afternoon.

Mikey Moore breakthrough imminent

Spurs fans are clamouring to see more of their youth prospect Mikey Moore.

The 17-year-old started and impressed in the club's recent 2-1 victory over Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday.

TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole has showered praise on the youngster, saying the teenager is 'destined to be a star' and his fellow former England international Anderton agrees.

He said: "He is an exciting prospect for sure and he will get his opportunity soon.

"With Spurs playing a certain way under Ange, I don’t think it will be too long before he gets his chance. With Spurs in four competitions there should be a chance for Mikey Moore to show what he can do and then grasp the opportunity and be further integrated in the first team squad."

Moore is 13/5 with bet365 to score anytime should he be awarded another opportunity this weekend by his Australian manager.

After spending £170 million in the summer, the pressure is on Postecoglou to get Spurs competing for top four.

The fiery Aussie told reporters he could guarantee a trophy this season as 'that's what he does', but questions are already being asked after a mixed start to the new term.

However, Anderton doesn't believe finishing outside the Champions League would necessarily be a failure for his old club given the competitiveness of the English top-flight.

He said: "It’s so tough in the Premier League. You look at Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. All those sides have a very good squad and already started the season well and likely to be fighting it out for the title.

"The top quality they all have, the striking options, the depth of squad, they are rightly title favourites. For Spurs to finish fourth is the aim of course, but it’s tough with Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle and Aston Villa all believing they have a chance. It won’t be a failure as the competition is tough, but it is the aim and possible for sure."

Tottenham are available at a best price of 11/4 to finish in the top four this season.

Darren Anderton was speaking on behalf of Free Bets.
