Borussia Dortmund host VfB Stuttgart at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, with kick-off set for 5:30pm UK time.
This fixture is a crucial clash in the fight for the Champions League places. Stuttgart currently sit third on 57 points while Dortmund enter in fourth on 53. The hosts will be hoping to claim all three points to close the gap while also pulling away from RB Leipzig, who face Freiburg away earlier in the day and are three points behind in fifth.
Dortmund have been relatively strong at home with a 62% win rate in front of the Yellow Wall and a high scoring rate of 2.08 goals per home game. Edin Terzic’s side have only failed to score once at home this season, and have netted two or more goals in an impressive 62% of home fixtures. 38% have seen three or more goals from Dortmund.
However, despite their impressive win rate, they generally concede with both teams scoring in 62% of their home fixtures in the Bundesliga this campaign. Their average 1.46 goals conceded at home is much worse than the 0.93 they've shipped on the road, and a worrying 46% of home fixtures have seen them concede at least two.
Games at Signal Iduna Park have provided plenty of entertainment for the neutral though, with an average of 3.54 total goals scored in the 13 games played there this season.
They will no doubt be buoyed by their 2-0 victory away at rivals Bayern Munich last weekend, which all but ended the latter's chances of retaining their Bundesliga title.
The away side head into the game with the fourth-best away record in the Bundesliga. They've won 62% of their games on the road, scoring 1.77 goals per game in the process. 62% of these matches have seen at least two goals scored by Sebastian Hoeness' side, though they have failed to find the net in 23%.
Their defensive record is slightly concerning though, with Stuttgart conceding an average of 1.54 goals per game on their travels. 38% of away fixtures have seen them ship two goals, and only 23% have resulted in a Stuttgart clean sheet. Nevertheless, they are undefeated in their last four away matches and will be looking to extend the gap between themselves and Saturday's opponents.
Dortmund have impressed at home this campaign, averaging 1.93 points per game at Signal Iduna Park compared to the 1.85 averaged by Stuttgart on the road. They also tend to find the net in front of their home fans, and despite Stuttgart's impressive away form, we expect Dortmund's home advantage to push them over the line in this one.
Both sides have also scored plenty whilst also making habit of conceding, suggesting plenty of goalmouth action lies in wait on Saturday evening.
